"KOBOYAGI’s recent release 'Futura Now' really feels like a message from somewhere else, and it arrives with a similar impact. It’s full of a buzzing, electric feeling of something about to happen, as if you’ve accidentally found a radio broadcast from the furthest reaches of space, and it doesn't waste a single second, immediately grabbing your attention.

The song’s base is shimmering synths, piled on top of each other, building and falling back like you’re surrounded by glowing neon waves. The recording itself is incredibly careful, clear, with lots of space, and meant to be exciting. Each sound has a very specific spot in the song; the beat is held down by a strong, throbbing bass, while bright, spiraling sounds float above. It’s brilliantly energetic, a look into the future of synthwave.

And then there’s Romane’s voice, and it’s the whole song’s focus.
She sounds simultaneously human and otherworldly, warm and just slightly untouchable — a ghost in your peripheral vision who turns out to be made of starlight.

Futura Now reads as a manifesto as much as a song. The title itself pulses with intent — a declaration that the future is not a destination but a state of being that can be inhabited right now, in this beat, in this breath. "KoboYagi" is the name of a mythical duo of space samurai robots: the Kobots. Hailing from a galaxy far, far away, the Kobots have traversed the vastness of space to explore our solar system. Their mission includes studying planet Earth, its inhabitants, and their customs, as well as activating mysterious energy portals scattered across the globe. Their music recounts their journeys and various adventures, both in space and on Earth, in their debut concept album. Since the planet Kobo is located over 40 light-years from Earth, the Kobots primarily received radio and TV signals from the 1980s and 1990s, which explains their Synthwave, 80s, Breakbeat, and 90s Electro musical influences. Koboyagi naturally draws inspiration from the Pop and Japanese culture of those decades: manga, music, film, video games, TV, design… and more specifically, Sentai-style series (X-Or, Bioman…) in which costumed alien heroes come to the aid of humans, sometimes displaying a very Japanese sense of humor and quirkiness. The new single "Futura Now" illustrates, through music and video, the first close encounter of the third kind between our duo and a human. Through a groovy and powerful breakbeat, enhanced by synthwave melodies and Romane's crystalline vocals, we follow the two characters' space journey, their landing on our planet, and their first contact with the singer.
