"Basic Elements's newest song will engulf you with a hopeful spell of new wave nostalgia and a warm sense of positivity very much needed these days.
If you're new to Basic Element's music prepare for a joyful sonic experience, this time around they present the song "New You", which in a way portrays a homage to the best Simple Minds era (and other similar artists of their genre), in fact, one could say it's a homage to all the Scottish alternative 80's music scene;
"New You" is built over a strong new wave foundation and lots of catchy synth arrangements and riffs here and there, the track's message gets outstandingly beautiful, both in its innocence and encouraging "never give up" attitude.
The guitar's on this one are splendid and will boost your mood for a better day every time you let yourself navigate through its heartfelt execution.
The vocals carry that amazing post punk vibe that is irresistible in this kind of more alternative organic oriented productions thanks a lot to the chosen drum set and overall modern 80's ambiance.
Please make yourself a favor and follow Basic Elements, they are successfully bringing back that classic new wave sound with an updated and fresh facade.

SYW Overall SCORE:
INSIDE THE TRACK: [artist's commentary]
PRODUCED BY ED BULLER (SUEDE, PULP, PSYCHEDELIC FURS) "NEW YOU" IS THE 2ND SINGLE FROM BASIC ELEMENTS, A RESURRECTED NEW WAVE BAND THAT GOT ITS START IN PHOENIX, AZ. THE BAND PEAKED BEFORE ITS TIME, MAKING A NAME FOR ITSELF IN THE UNHERALDED '80S ARIZONA MUSIC SCENE, PLAYING ALONGSIDE LOCAL LEGENDS LIKE GIN BLOSSOMS AND IRS RECORDING ARTISTS, CATERWAUL, AS WELL AS OPENING UP FOR TOURING POST-PUNK ACTS LIKE BOLSHOI AND GENE LOVES JEZEBEL... ALL WHILE MAINTAINING AN AVERAGE AGE OF JUST 17-YEARS OLD.
TODAY MOST OF THE BAND LIVES IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, AND AFTER WORKING DAY JOBS AS A PROFESSIONAL SCULPTOR, A TV PRODUCER, A VIDEO GAME ATTORNEY, A REAL-ESTATE AGENT AND A GRAPHIC ARTIST, BASIC ELEMENTS REUNITED AFTER 30 YEARS TO RECORD THE SONGS THEY WROTE AS TEENAGERS IN THE '80S WITH ONE OF THEIR HEROES. "NEW YOU" IS A FEEL-GOOD ANTHEM ABOUT 2ND CHANCES AND NEW BEGINNINGS, STUFF THE BAND KNOWS ALL TOO WELL. THE SONG MIGHT SOUND LIKE IT'S RIPPED OUT OF 1985 (THE BAND ACTUALLY WROTE THE SONG BEFORE THEY EVER HEARD THE SEMINAL SIMPLE MINDS SONG) BUT it *FEELS* LIKE IT WAS MADE FOR RIGHT NOW.
THE BIGGEST SURPRISE FOR US ON THIS SONG WAS THE LAYERING. WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN A LIVE BAND AND NEVER USED ANY LOOPS, SO WHEN WE PLAYED THIS SONG LIVE BACK IN THE '80S IT WAS PRETTY STRIPPED DOWN. WORKING WITH ED GAVE US AN OPPORTUNITY TO ENHANCE OUR EXISTING TRACKS WITH NEW, FRESH IDEAS AND UPGRADED SONICS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, ONCE COVID IS GONE AND WE'RE ABLE TO PLAY LIVE SHOWS AGAIN, WE'LL BE WORKING WITH SOME LOOPS TO ENSURE THIS SONG HAS THE SAME SIZE AS IT DOES ON THIS RECORDING. THAT'S WHAT ED DID FOR ALL OUR SONGS - MADE THEM THE BEST VERSION THEY COULD BE WHILE MAINTAINING AND RESPECTING THE ORIGINS OF EACH SONG. IT WAS AN INCREDIBLY SATISFYING AND REWARDING EXPERIENCE.
