This time the spotlight goes to a very delightful synthwave song from an artist with a very particular musical background; Chris Amott, for some, might be a familiar name but definitely not inside the synthwave scene (well now he should be), but from the Swedish death metal scene instead;
he was with the band Arch Enemy, he is now part of Dark Tranquility (both death metal bands) you can find more info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Amott.
And Yes, you read that well!
I'm not gonna lie I was a little surprised after investigating more from his past projects trying to find previous synthwave or electronic releases, it turns out this track is part of his first solo work in this style, the album name is 'Electric Twilight'!
Having an extended career in the rock genre turns out it really helps to develop a great sense of electronic oriented music too;
This song 'Symphony of Home' immediately hooks you up with a very familiar old school 80's music production, with a solid drumbeat and perfectly tuned synth patches with an old school electronic approach.
The melodies are somewhere between a nostalgic and optimistic mood but what is really compelling and in my opinion the highlight is the vocal performance; Chris's voice is just perfect for this style, the texture reminds sometimes of Peter Murphy but in small doses, Chris has a vocal personality of his own and a very solid one I must add.
The tune also features great guitar work taking advantage of Chris's expertise with the instrument, the parts add a feeling of melancholy and even tease a little sensuality.
Conclusion: I can only guess Chris's passion for this kind of music to make him produce a complete album having into account his death metal background, but hey, music is music there are no limits and Chris gives us an outstanding example of this! Please give a listen to Chris Ammot's debut album 'Electric Twilight' you'll be amazed!
